16-year-old Palestinian Ahed Tamimi facing 10 years in prison

Free Ahed

Micah – Ahed Tamimi is one of approximately 350 Palestinian children – as young as 12 – held in Israeli prisons and detention centres.

16-year-old Ahed and her mother, Nariman, were arrested by Israeli soldiers and she faces up to 10 years in prison, if convicted on any of her alleged crimes. This punishment is blatantly disproportionate to her actions.

While in detention, she has endured aggressive interrogations, sometimes in the middle of the night, and threats made against her family.

Ahed is being prosecuted in a military court system that denies basic due process and fair trial rights, and has over 99% conviction rate against Palestinians. Her trial is imminent – we must act quickly.

On 15 December, Ahed Tamimi and her family were protesting Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In a horrifying turn of events, Ahed’s 14-year-old cousin, Mohammed, was shot in the head at close range by an Israeli soldier.

On the same day, Ahed also came face to face with Israeli soldiers, when they entered the yard of her family’s house. A video, which has since gone viral, shows the unarmed teenage girl slapping, shoving and kicking two armed Israeli soldiers who are wearing protective gear. It was clear she posed no actual threat to them – as they lightly swatted her advances away.

Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Israel is a state party, the arrest, detention or imprisonment of a child must be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time.

We need to ensure that Palestinian children are not subjected to detention. Will you add your voice?

Call on the Israeli government to release Ahed Tamimi

There is nothing Ahed Tamimi has done that can justify the continuing detention of a 16-year-old child.

Help us put global pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

take action here
