Egypt:
Update: Case173 is not over- WHRD Azza Soliman faces “terrorism court” on October 10

by: Center for Egyptian Women’s Legal Assistance (CEWLA)

The Renowned WHRD and lawyer Azza Soliman has submitted an appeal to lift her name from the travel ban and asset freeze lists to the President of the Cairo Court of Appeal based on the decision of Mr. Counselor Ali Mukhtar, the investigative judge delegated from the Cairo Court of Appeal to investigate the case No. 173 of 2011 (known as NGOs foreign funding case) to drop the case against several organizations and entities including Lawyers for Justice and Peace (LJP) law company which was headed by Ms Azza Soliman. The case was dropped based on the fact that there is no grounds for legal claim.

The appeal is scheduled to be looked at by Judicial Circuit 4 on terrorism of Criminal Court on Sunday 10th of October 2021.

It’s important to mention that according to the decision made to drop the case based on the fact that there is no grounds for legal claim, which makes all accusation against Azza untrue, her appeal is supposed to be looked at by regular judicial circuits of the Criminal Court and not by terrorism circuit. Such a decision makes us wonder, why Azza Soliman’s appeal is looked at by terrorism courts?

We invite you all to post and tweet on Sunday about case173 demanding dropping the case against all organizations and defenders, including Azza Soliman.
