Statement by Women Solidarity Against Violence by Islamic Defender’s Front (FPI)

Indonesia as a state based on constitutional law where Pancasila as the
ideological base. Government has stated June 1st as Pancasila anniversary.
And so, an amount of civilian who gathered in the National Alliance for
Freedom of Religion and Faith celebrate this moment in Monas, Central
Jakarta to mark the anniversary of Pancasila. But unfortunately in the
middle of the celebration, the Islamic Defender’s Front (FPI) attack on
participants by giving reason that the National Alliance for Freedom of
Religion and Faith support the Ahmadiyah. As result, this celebration end up
with riot, even some women, children and activist, such Guntur Romli
(Program Director of Women’s Journal Foundation) become victim of the
attack.
And so, Women Solidarity as an anti violence organization, respecting
plurality and uphold the justice, stated:
1. Curse and against all violence that carry out by FPI because this
attack is a crime action which against the Human Right.
2. Insist the security apparatus to find out, arrest the actor and
guarantee that the law process carry out in the proper corridor based on
justice.
3. Urge all women and pro democracy civilian to refuse certain
individual and groups action which using religion to control and bridle
women’s and people’s freedom of democracy, living in justice plurality
without violence.
