  Jeudi [26 septembre], des milliers de femmes et d’hommes palestiniens ont manifesté pour les droits des femmes en douze lieux de Palestine/Israël et de la diaspora, à la suite de cas récents et très médiatisés de violences commises contre des femmes en raison de leur sexe dans la société palestinienne. Des manifestations ont notamment eu lieu à Ramallah, Jérusalem, Haïfa, Jaffa, Gaza, Beyrouth et Berlin.

  La plupart des Arabes, y compris les Palestiniens, n’ont peut-être jamais mis les pieds en Palestine ou à Jérusalem, sa capitale, pour une raison évidente : l’occupation israélienne. Mais la cause de la Palestine et de Jérusalem transcende la géographie et la géopolitique ; elle transcende même les Palestiniens en tant que peuple et la Palestine en tant que patrie.

  La Cisjordanie, Jérusalem et la bande de Gaza sont soumises au régime de l’occupation depuis 1967... Ni les accords d’Oslo (1993-1994) ni le « retrait unilatéral » de Gaza (2005) n’ont modifié cet état de fait : c’est l’État d’Israël qui contrôle ces territoires, soit par une présence directe (Jérusalem et Cisjordanie), soit par un bouclage strict (Gaza). Depuis près de 50 ans, l’occupation est une donnée permanente de la vie des Palestiniens, ce qui a bien évidemment entraîné des dynamiques de résistance, mais aussi, phénomène souvent sous-estimé, d’adaptation.

  On August 2, 2014 the Israeli army bombed the historic Al-Omari Mosque in northern Gaza. The ancient mosque dates back to the 7^th century and has since served as a symbol of resilience and faith for the people of Gaza. As Notre Dame burned, I thought of Al-Omari too. While the fire at the French cathedral was likely accidental, destroyed Palestinian houses of worship were intentionally targeted. The Israeli culprits are yet to be held accountable.

Because of the Israeli bombings and Israeli embargo, Gaza, the United Nations has found, will become “uninhabitable by 2020.”

Earlier on Sunday, Netanyahu said at a briefing for reporters that he would rather explore the possibility of a long-term cease-fire with Hamas than go to war. He defended the decision to let suitcases stuffed with $15 million in cash from Qatar enter Gaza last week. Palestinian sources told Haaretz that one of the casualties is Nour Baraka, a deputy commander of an elite unit of Iz al-Din al-Qassam, the military wing of Hamas. According to a statement from Hamas’ military wing, Israeli forces entered Gaza in a civilian vehicle three kilometers east of Khan Yunis. The exchange of fire began after Israeli soldiers kiled Barake.
