During the last few years, Palestinian olive trees - a universal symbol of life and peace - have been systematically destroyed by Israeli settlers. Over the last 40 years, over a million olive trees and hundreds of thousands of fruit trees have been destroyed in Palestinian lands. The Israel Defense Forces have been accused of uprooting olive trees to facilitate the building of settlements, expand roads and build infrastructure. Practically none of the complaints filed during the past several years on damage to Palestinians trees in the West Bank has resulted on an indictment.

Israel-Palestine: January 2018: Soldiers kill 5 Palestinians – 3 with shots to the head – without justification
9 February 2018, by siawi3B’Tselem’s investigation found that the six Palestinians were shot in the upper body during clashes and demonstrations that included stone-throwing, although they were not endangering the lives of the soldiers or of anyone else. This conduct renders the open-fire regulations, which are supposed to limit the use of lethal firepower, void of meaning and conveys Israel’s deep disregard for the lives of Palestinians.

If Israel Lets Palestinian Hunger Striker Marwan Barghouti Die, It Risks a Brutal Intifada
6 May 2017, by siawi3On the surface, the hunger strike led by imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti is about a fairly mundane list of basic demands for prisoners. But it is symbolic of a much wider struggle, one that could constitute a significant turning point in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and, if mishandled, lead to a third intifada. Another brutal intifada would smash what remains of the chances for the two-state solution, still US and international policy towards Israel and Palestine.

Palestine: West Bank Mosque Hit With Attempted Arson in Possible Hate Crime
13 April 2018, by siawi3Referred to in Israel as “price-tag attacks†, the attacks are wanton reprisals undertaken by extremist Jews in response to Palestinian violence against Israelis or government curbs on unauthorized West Bank settlement building. Settler violence against Palestinians is on the rise, but goes regularly unpunished. Zachariah Sade, an investigator for Rabbis for Human Rights, arrived at the scene early in the morning and alerted Israeli authorities. As of Friday morning, no Israeli forces have arrived at the scene. On April 5, several vehicles in a Palestinian-majority East Jerusalem neighborhood were vandalized on Wednesday night.

16 April 2018, by siawi3The people of Ireland, with their long legacy of struggle against colonialism, have shown that while governments in the US and Europe are deeply complicit in Israel’s crimes of occupation and apartheid, people of conscience stand on the right side of history, against oppression and for freedom, justice, equality and human dignity.
