Hate crimes like the desecration of religious spaces and the economic harassment of Muslims via intimidation are not simply activities that end after they have happened. The value they offer to the Hindutva ecosystem is in the vast digital reach they provide as propaganda units, by which thousands of people are invited to be inspired by and replicate this violence.

India: Secular Muslims oppose the demand for an anti-blasphemy law
27 November 2021, by siawi3We condemn the constant attempts by certain hate factories of Hindutva which are working overtime to demonise Islam and Muslims. However, IMSD fully supports the principle that in a secular state there can be no place for a law criminalising blasphemy. Pakistan: Remembering Ardeshir Cowasjee
29 November 2021, by siawi3His criticism of the powerful was fearless and irreverent, and his readers loved it. Zulfiqar Bhutto was “megalomaniac”, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif “corrupt to the core” and Altaf Hussain “the Pir of Edgware”. And these are only a sample of the words he used to describe them. On camera, he would go even further in ridiculing those who ruled Pakistan. He offered a very different take on the rulers compared to the biographers and other commentators.
