  A major step on right to dissent. There are currently 13000 individuals in jails under the colonial era Sedition Law. The Court suspended criminal trials under Section 124A that prosecutes people charged with sedition and has asked that this law not be applied until further orders. Clearly the highest Indian Court, the Government and public discourse have influenced this judgement. The Right to Speech that does not provoke violence is foundational for democracy.
