La militante et écrivaine Haifa Zangana amplifie dans le monde la voix des Irakiens qu’on n’entend pas. Rien que dans l’année écoulée, l’ONU estime que 8.868 personnes, comprenant 7.818 civils ont été tuées dans des attaques violentes dans le pays. « Les femmes ont été prises entre la destruction de la guerre et la politique féodale et sectaire menée par la classe politique au pouvoir depuis 2003. » Haifa a affirmé que le Printemps arabe avait en fait débuté en Irak : « On a rarement rapporté que des Irakiens se sont rassemblés chaque vendredi depuis décembre 2012 dans cinq provinces majeures dans une résistance non-violente qui a grandi spontanément, née après l’occupation de Bagdad le 9 avril 2003. » « L’ennemi…est la montée du sectarisme, de partis politiques corrompus appliquant aux femmes leur interprétation de l’Islam. »
