Avec le passé de l’esclavage (1619-1865), les Etats-Unis ont pris l’habitude de mesurer les races, de caractériser les personnes selon ce critère. Les Américains ont le sentiment que les races sont séparées et que celle dite « blanche » est menacée d’être « submersible », pour reprendre les termes de l’extrême droite française.
