A Delhi court has banned a documentary film, Leslee Udwin’s India’s Daughter, about the December 2012 fatal gang rape of a woman in the Capital over concerns that derogatory comments made by one of the rapists could create an atmosphere of fear and tension but its filmmaker has said it will be released as planned.

Nahid Afrin, who, two years ago, placed high on Indian Idol Junior, the famous talent search show, has been asked to stop singing in public by the clerics. While there is little doubt that Afrin has been at the receiving end of bigotry more than once as a result of her singing, was there actually a fatwa?
