Wednesday 8 February 2023

4pm - Rally in Parliament Square, London

5pm - Meeting at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster

The Boothroyd Committee Room PCH

Organised by the Solidarity with the Workers’ Movement in Iran Committee

Following the murder of Mahsa Amini by the morality police in Iran on 16 September 2022 and the subsequent nationwide uprising inside the country, the Iranian regime has carried out a brutal crackdown. Hundreds of people have been killed, including 70 children. More than 18,000 people have been arrested and subjected to torture. Four protestors have been executed after sham trials. Many more are at risk of execution

To show its support for the Iranian people’s struggle and in condemnation of the Iranian regime’s brutality, the committee of Solidarity with the Iranian Workers’ Movement has organised an International Day of Action on 8 February 2023, culminating with a rally in Parliament Square in London followed by a meeting at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. There will be solidarity actions in Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.

Trade unionists from the United Kingdom and internationally, parliamentarians, women’s rights activists and organisations, as well as civil and refugee rights organisations will rally on the day to send a clear message to the Iranian regime. Executions must stop, political prisoners must be released and the suppression of workers’ rights, women’s and citizens’ rights must end.

The aims of Solidarity with the Iranian Workers’ Movement Committee, chaired by John McDonnell MP, are to provide briefings and information on the people’s struggles in Iran, mobilise support and solidarity with the revolutionary uprising, condemn rights violations and executions and facilitate direct links between workers’ organisations in the UK and Iran. The Committee comprises politicians, trade unions, labour organisations, women’s rights and refugee rights organisation representatives, and writers and activists.
