  There are many lessons to learn from these mass struggles, but one of the most important is that they show the central importance of a strategy of solidarity that endeavors to unite the widest possible number around concrete objectives, building understanding even among groups with very different traditions and politics. We need a left that realizes that being radical does not consist of raising the most militant slogan or carrying out the most extreme actions — with which only a few agree, and which scare off the majority — but rather in being capable of creating spaces for the broadest possible sectors to meet and join forces in struggle. The realization that there are many of us in the same struggle is what makes us strong; it is what radicalizes us.

  Tout ne s’explique pas par la géopolitique, mais rien ne peut s’expliquer sans elle. Il faudra sans doute à l’avenir s’intéresser plus à ces gigantesques batailles inter-impérialistes qui sont devant nous.
  l’impérialisme occidental (piloté par les EU qui ont fini par enrôler, après la Grande-Bretagne via la finance, l’UE via son impuissance) tente d’endiguer la Russie et la Chine au nom de l’idéologie des droits de l’homme. Il le fait au nom de l’idéologie des droits de l’homme, mais partout où cet impérialisme passe (Afghanistan, Irak, Libye, Syrie, etc.) il fait le lit des forces les plus obscurantistes et intégristes au point de faire s’allier des ennemis de toujours (Iran-Irak par exemple).

  Le Chili reste fermement conservateur pour les questions sociales, quatre décennies après la dictature. Il a légalisé le divorce en 2004, devenant un des derniers pays au monde accordant ce droit à des couples mariés. Le Sénat chilien a rejeté trois propositions de loi qui aurait relâché l’interdiction absolue de d’avortement. En Amérique latine, seul Cuba, l’Uruguay et certains gouvernements locaux rendent accessibles un avortement précoce à toutes les femmes. L’Uruguay a récemment passé une loi autorisant le choix de l’avortement dans les trois premiers mois de la grossesse dans la loi la plus libérale sur l’avortement en Amérique latine. Beaucoup de pays dans la région interdisent l’avortement en toutes circonstances.

  Chile remains firmly conservative in social matters four decades after the dictatorship. It legalised divorce in 2004, becoming one of the last in the world to grant married couples the right. The Chilean senate rejected three bills in 2012 that would have eased the absolute ban on abortion. In Latin America only Cuba, Uruguay and some local governments make early abortions accessible to all women. Uruguay recently passed a law authorising elective abortions in the first three months of pregnancy in the most liberal law of its kind in Latin America. Many countries in the region outlaw abortion in all circumstances.
